Spirit in Practice
Hello – I have found as a parent with a child in the RE program, that I love the interaction of the various ages of our children and I am clearly thrilled with the content of what they are exploring during our hour together. And (though I am too busy now) I have wanted to have something for “me” during this hour of learning. Other parents have echoed the wish for something weightier for our time while we wait for service. I have pulled this notebook together from the online UUA curricula, Tapestry of Faith. Activities that can take about 20 minutes and are an opportunity to strengthen our understanding of UU’ism.
I recommend that each week, someone volunteer to take the next activity and lead it. The binder will remain at the Fellowship; I will provide any materials needed for the activity. That way no one person is in charge, but in rotation fashion we can try something different during our 20 minutes after circle time. Let me know if you like the idea or the material.
I suggest that we agree to the following guidelines in this kind of activity – perhaps there are some more everyone would like to add to this list:
- Everyone has the right to participate
- Everyone has the right to pass or be silent
- Treat one another with respect
- Aim to converse with—not convert—other participants
I think we should read these out loud and ask for agreement before commencing.
Great – please enjoy the content and discussion. I will drop in from time to time, if the kids program grants me the time to do it!
- Workshop 1 - Toward A Rich And Meaningful UU Spirituality
- Workshop 2 - Personal Spiritual Practices
- Workshop 3 - Communal Spiritual Practices
- Workshop 4 - Spiritual Partnerships
In total there are 10 workshops. If you find that the first 4 workshops are interesting and merit continued discsussion, I can print out more pages. At this time the remaining materials are available at the website if you want to peruse them further – or I am glad that you are finding this program meaningful, and I will print the remaining workshops!
