UUUS Recyclying Day
For directions to the UUUS, see http://www.universityuus.org/uuus_contactus.htm.To participate in the UUUS Recycling day, December 1, 2007, 9AM-1:30PM, consider the following efforts:
- Help with setting up signs in the morning, taking them down in the afternoon.
- Help with the efforts (setting up tables, coffee, etc.) with Kathy Anderson say on either morning (8-9 AM), or end, near 1:30 PM.
- Bring goods to sell at one of the foldout tables, collect the money, and donate some to either Social Concerns (for the upcoming environmental projects) or Beacon (who is using the money for an upcoming field trip).
- Bring Christmas gifts (new toys with price tags) for the Apopka Farm Workers; this can also be done at the society. These are later sold at their store at greatly reduced prices.
- If you have electronic equipment that works, please bring them and we'll see if people are intereseted in buying or taking them. This would include computers, monitors, etc.
- Bring old cell phones (working or not) for recycling.
- Members can bring hazardous waste (old paint cans, insecticides/pesticides, weed killers, fertilizers) for the landfill. (Make sure that any containers used to carry them are sealed- with no leaking for your safety and ours. Double bag any open bags (pesticide, week killers, etc.) with strong black garbage bags and mark them with masking tape and a Sharpie marker identifying the object.)
- Speaking of bulbs. The society's recent bulb upgrade has resulted in 100+ T12 bulbs (both used and new), which are available at an insignificant cost. Note: these type of bulbs are still available at grocery and hardware stores. Do not bring old bulbs to be recycled unless you either plan on selling them or paying for them to be recycled which runs $2 per 4ft bulb and $3 per 8ft bulb.
- Note: If you have broken electronic equipment do not bring them. Instead, consider a repair shop, or dropping them off at the curb for pickup.
